Our PhD student, Ing. Sofiia Serhiienko, participated in the EECI Summer School M16, held at the University of Oxford, United Kingdom.
During the course Optimization and Control of Complex Multi-Agent Systems, she explored modern approaches to optimization and control of complex multi-agent systems. The program focused on distributed optimization, coordination of networked systems, and decision-making under uncertainty.
The course was taught by leading researchers Kostas Margellos (University of Oxford), Alessandro Falsone, and Maria Prandini (Politecnico di Milano).
Summer schools are about much more than lectures. They provide an opportunity to meet people tackling similar research challenges, exchange ideas, build new friendships, and gain fresh inspiration to pursue research with even greater enthusiasm.
On Tuesday, June 30, 2026, doctoral examinations took place at the Institute of Information Engineering, Automation, and Mathematics, successfully completed by Ing. Sofiia Serhiienko, MSc., Ananya Lohani, and Ing. Gyula Kurucz.
All three are PhD students in the new English-language study program Smart Process Control, which provides greater flexibility in scientific research and supports the development of interdisciplinary research.
We sincerely congratulate them on successfully passing the doctoral examination and wish them many more successes in the future.
Our PhD student, Ananya Lohani, participated in the EECI Summer School M14, a week-long international summer school held at KU Leuven, Belgium.
During the course Deep Learning for System Identification, she explored modern approaches to system identification based on deep learning methods. The course was taught by Dario Piga and Marco Forgione from the Dalle Molle Institute for Artificial Intelligence in Lugano, Switzerland.
Participating in international summer schools provides PhD students with an excellent opportunity to broaden their expertise, discuss emerging research topics, and build connections with researchers from around the world.
On Wednesday, 3 June 2026, the President of the Slovak Republic, Peter Pellegrini, appointed 30 new university professors. Among them were also our colleagues:
Congratulations!
TA3 – time segments: Juraj Oravec from 5:22 min, Zdenko Takáč from 6:59 min
Together with our colleagues from ETH Zurich (Switzerland) and EPFL Lausanne (Switzerland), we are excited to share our latest research paper published in one of the most prestigious international journal IEEE Transactions on Automatic Control:
Yuning Jiang - Kristína Fedorová - Roland Schwan - Juraj Oravec - Colin N. Jones:
Distributed Real-Time Cooperative Model Predictive Control
The paper presents a novel method for reliable real-time optimal control, enabling incredibly fast evaluation of control action. The proposed method outperforms other relevant approaches in terms of runtimes/accuracy.
On January 23, 2026, long-time member and head of the department, Prof. Ing. Ján Mikleš, DrSc., passed away at the age of 87. The funeral will take place on Monday, February 9, 2026, at 2:00 p.m. in the ceremonial hall of the crematorium in Bratislava. May he rest in peace.
We invite you to a lecture and workshop entitled: Large Language Models in Chemical Engineering Education (Fiammetta Caccavale, Technical University of Denmark), which will take place on Tuesday, November 11, 2025, at 10:00 a.m. in the FCHPT library (2nd floor).
