Learning outcomes of the course unit:
Student aquire the basic knowledge base about the structure, physico-chemical properties, syntetic preparation and typical reactivity of amines, carbonyl compounds and their derivatives, amino acids and peptides, saccharides, heterocyclic compounds, nucleosides a nucleic acids.

Course contents:

1. Nitrogen compounds: nitroderivatives and amines
2. Oxocompounds: aldehydes, ketones and related compounds (sacharrides)
3. Carboxylic Acids, substituted acids (aminoacids and peptides) and acid derivatives
4. Heterocyclic compounds, nucleosides and nucleic acids

Planned learning activities and teaching methods:
The course consists of lectures (2 hrs per week) with the following structure: introduction, structure, properties and nomenclature, synthetic methods of preparation, reactivity and organic transformations, applications and practical utility. The course also consists of group tutorials (2 h per week).
Assesment methods and criteria:
Written exam test with maximum score 50 points. The exam is passed when student reaches at least 56% points, i.e. 28/50. The final grade follows the percentage of points obtained: A 92-100%, B 83-91%, C 74-82%, D 65-73%, E 56-64%.
