Abstract

The project is focused on research in the areas of methods, algorithms and means for modelling and identification of technological units in process industries, as well as on design and implementation of algorithms for synthesis, analysis and final implementation of control systems to aforementioned processes. Partial methods and algorithms will be designed with high focus on effectiveness of their respective implementation, which will decrease the purchasing and operating costs of control systems for processes with heat and mass transfer that can be described by hybrid models.

Objectives

The aim of the project is to design methods and procedures for finding optimal operation points of key technological units in process industries. It will make use of on-line and off-line optimisation based on hybrid models.

Aims for the first stage, year 2008

  • Analysis and design of hybrid mathematical models for description of processes of the chemical and food industry
  • Analysis of model uncertainties and their respective incorporation directly into the models
  • Adding support for vector and matrix variables into the HYSDEL modelling language
  • Adding support for compositional and graphical modelling of complex systems into the HYSDEL language
  • Analysis of complexity of the mathematical models of hybrid systems, definition of criteria of complexity
  • Proposal of techniques for reduction of complexity of the hybrid mathematical models
  • Extension of methods for rigorous simulation of systems with hybrid dynamics
  • Sensitivity analysis of optimal solutions and its application to robust control
  • Design of global optimisation methods taylored to processes from chemical and food industries

Aims for the second stage, year 2009

  • Design of methods for optimal control of hybrid systems with maximal emphasis on efficiency of obtaining solutions to optimisation problems which involve integer variables
  • Design of algorithms for robust control of hybrid systems
  • Development of methods for state estimation for hybrid systems
  • Evaluation of available hybrid identification methods, selection of suitable tools for processes from chemical industries
  • Extension of optimal control methods based on parametric programming
  • Proposal of methods and techniques for complexity reduction in solutions obtained by parametric programming
  • Evaluation of existing methods and available software packages for the problems of nonlinear programming, especially from the complexity point of view. Analysis of applicability of the selected methods and tools for processes of chemical industries

Aims for the third stage, year 2010, 6/2011

  • Design of new methods for efficient implementation of parametric solutions in real time with emphasis on lowering memory and processing requirements
  • Extension of the MPT toolbox, adding support for robust control and state estimation for hybrid systems
  • Adding the ability of the MPT toolbox to export optimal controllers directly to industrial control systems in the form of an executable code
  • Adding support for global optimisation to the DYNOPT package
  • Adding support for large-scale nonlinear programming to the DYNOPT package, especially addressing problems of high complexity
  • Development of methodology for simulation and optimisation of hybrid processes
  • Application of the developed methods to control of processes of chemical and food industries
