The Smart Chemical Engineering for Sustainable Development EMDM (Smart SustainChemE) project is a groundbreaking initiative addressing the urgent need for sustainable development in chemical engineering. Led by high-ranking ENSIC Université de Lorraine, in collaboration with a consortium of partners with complementary expertise (Slovak University of Technology, Hasselt University) associated to La Sapienza, this project endeavors to design a High-Quality European Master Programme in Chemical Engineering that aligns closely with global and European sustainable development goals and the European chemical companies transition strategy. Smart SustainChemE seeks to integrate into the curriculum cutting-edge expertise in intelligent modelling tools and skills to face transition to sustainable products and processes, equipping students with ability to drive sustainable innovation. By fostering collaboration and multidisciplinary approaches, the programme aims to train Chemical Engineers to not only by technically proficient but also capable of addressing the complex challenges of sustainability with the use of advanced tools such as digitalization, artificial intelligence, and smart modelling to optimize processes and products for sustainability. Through active teaching tools pedagogy, students will gain a deep understanding of how technologies can be leveraged to mitigate environmental impact and promote resource efficiency. EMDM prioritizes international perspective and student mobility, providing opportunities for cross-cultural exchange and learning. By exposing students to diverse approaches to sustainability, the program aims to develop global leaders capable of driving positive change on a larger scale and to position Europe at the forefront of sustainable development. By combining academic excellence and cooperation at European level, the program seeks to empower the next generation of chemical engineers to lead the transition towards a more sustainable future.
