Anotation

By supporting broad spectrum of activities ranging from student mobilities at the MSc. and PhD. level, staff mobilities, organization of multilateral international summer school and conferences, joint development of teaching materials and publishing scientific publications, project is devoted to enhancing cooperation in academic research in the automatic control area in the partner institutions STU Bratislava and NTNU Trondheim and through them also at broader regional, national and international levels.

Goals

Advances in the control research play a key role in many areas of our society: in sustainable development and environment protection, in medicine, biotechnologies, nanotechnologies, transport, communication, process control, energy production etc. The globalisation trends and increasing diversity and needs on specialization naturally require broad international cooperation in the research activities that need to start already at the higher education level and continue through the PhD. study up to the continuous staff development of the university teachers and researchers.

The Slovak University of Technology in Bratislava (STU) and the Norwegian University of Science and Technology in Trondeim (NTNU) represent leading national institutions in the control area in Slovakia and Norway. They are included in many international research activities but still see a high potential of increasing effectiveness and efficiency of their activities by closer mutual cooperation. Up to now this was running mainly on the level of individual initiatives of PhD students that received support from different scientific projects and grants.

The aim of this project is to intensify and systemize these initial initiatives and to broaden the spectrum of running joint activities. Having this in mind, project aims to focus dominantly on student and staff mobilities organized in different context in both directions that could activate and deepen the mutual research cooperation.

The central focus will be given to student mobilities at the MSc. and PhD. level that represents a long-term investment into the development of mutual cooperation. The staff mobilities will mostly be oriented to lecturing activities. These include individual lectures and seminars, lectures given within jointly organized scientific workshop/tutorial and jointly prepared lectures for international conferences.

Effectiveness and efficiency of the regular study and also of different Life-Long-Learning and Training activities will also be enhanced by joint development of teaching materials that will include joint development of textbooks and workbooks oriented to the field of advanced control including e.g. model predictive control, optimization, constrained and nonlinear control, PID control, Internet based learning and experimenting, computer simulations and different control applications.

The pyramid of the joint activities should support joint preparation of scientific publications for recognized scientific journals and joint preparation of new research projects.

Workshop of the project, Bratislava, 10-15.1.2011

Main results from the project were presented at the workshop in Bratislava and can be found in three project publications (Textbook, Workbook, and Preprints). These are in electronic form available here.
