The lecture presents an application of a robust static output feedback control (RSOFC) to an exothermic continuous-time stirred tank reactor (CSTR). The CSTR is an uncertain system, which operates in an unstable steady state because of maximal production of the main product. Robust controller design uses a linearized model of the CSTR. Necessary and sufficient conditions for stabilization of linear continuous-time uncertain polytopic systems via static output feedback are given. The problem of RSOFC design is converted to solution of linear matrix inequalities (LMIs) and a computationally simple LMI based non-iterative algorithm is used. The design procedure guarantees with sufficient conditions the robust quadratic stability and guaranteed cost.
