PhD projects supervised by Michal Kvasnica supported by the government of Slovakia:

Duration: 4 years.
Financial terms: 550 EUR monthly scholarship + additional bonuses based on performance.

List of available projects:

Safe and Secure Process Control

The aim of the project is to design and to implement advanced process control algorithms that can cope with external disturbances (e.g. due to process noise and quantisation of signals), as well as to be immune against targeted attacks on the safety and quality of control (e.g. due to man-in-the-middle attacks). The student will create a unified methodology to design of control systems based on anonymization and encryption of signals between controllers, sensors, and actuators.

Real-Time Nonlinear Model Predictive Control

The aim of the project is to develop and to implement algorithms for solving optimization problems applied to nonlinear model predictive control. The project will make use of gradient-based and parametric optimization methods, as well as integer optimization applied to a piecewise affine approximation of process nonlinearities. The project outcome will thus be a unified methodology for the design, verification, and implementation of nonlinear model predictive control for chemical and biological processes.
