OPEN ADVANCED DIAGNOSTICS & MAINTENANCE

AMBROSCH, C.; KAROVIČ, J.

Abstract

DD languages + DD Interpretation + FDT. A Winning Combination. Customers want the most advanced maintenance and diagnostics for each type of field device they purchase, regardless of their choice of host system. In homes and offices around the world, three software components; the java language, the java byte code interpreter, and the web browser with standardized APIs provide PC users an open multi-vendor environment enabling them to perform a vast array of tasks on their computers, e.g. reserving airline flights, finding road maps, exchanging documents with friends, and more. Eliminate any of the 3 technologies and web computing would not be as open, and would not have as much advanced functionality. In a similar way, adding FDT technology to DD languages and DD interpretation provides a powerful way to build a standard browser to launch and view screens that display DD methods and Enhanced DDL functionality. Plus it provides standardized APIs internal to the PC to let advanced diagnostic and maintenance software by the field device vendors be launched, execute, and store needed data.. Eliminate any of the 3 technologies, and the capability is not as open, and does not provide the same advanced functionality.
