THE SECURITY OF LINUX SERVERS WITH A VIA NETWORK MONITORING AND CONTROLLING SYSTEM

MATÝSEK, M.; ADÁMEK, M.; NEUMANN, P.

Abstract

With regards to the repeated attacks from Internet area against LINUX servers hosting the test version of via network monitoring and controlling system based on the TCP/IP protocol, it was necessary to try to cope with that threat. We have designed, debugged, tested and applied an efficient firewall based on the packet filtering . That firewall is well able to defend LINUX server from the most frequent attacks. We have also designed and debugged our own Linux distribution derived from Debian/GNU installable from a CD-ROM or a Compact Flash memory for those situations when the attack is impossible to filter off.
