PLC WEB SERVERS AND REMOTE SCALE MODELS

FUKA, J.

Abstract

Industry programmable logic controller (PLC) support usually Ethernet communication. They can be equipped with built in web pages, which present basic information about modules, data, etc., or they allow creation of user provided web pages often only for monitoring. Up to date PLC web servers have an authentication of user, who can remotely change process data using standard web browser. The article gives a small survey of PLC web servers. It also presents detail description of Allen-Bradley web modules or controllers and their applications with scaled modules in the Allen-Bradley Laboratory at the CTU. One new teaching model is multiple axis servo system – the “Lathe”. In practice, the model can only copy surface of the finished workpiece. The position of the slide head is read from two incremental rotary sensors, the distance from the surface is measured by tactile inductive drift meter and rotating speed of the spindle by tachodynamo. The slide head movements are directed manually, or by ControlLogix programmable controller equipped with special motion module and Ethernet web server module, or by personal computer. The process is also monitor by a web camera for teaching purposes.
